Yordi - A Lifelong Journey of Growth

Heard It Before. Still Funny.

At the end of an athletics training session, I passed by the door of the gym where a youth group was wrapping up for the evening. One of the parents was already waiting just outside for their 11-year-old kid. When she came over, the parent said: "Say goodbye to everyone."

The kid looked at her parent, then at the rest of the group, and said the legendary, literal words: "Goodbye to everyone!"

I chuckled. Not because I hadn't heard this kind of joke before where someone takes an instruction completely literally. But because of the context. It's just funnier when a joke like this comes from a young kid rather than a grown-up.

Sometimes you've heard a joke so much that it stops being funny. Like a song you once loved, until you played it so many times it started to irritate you. But when the same joke lands in a new context, like this "goodbye to everyone" spoken by a young kid, it suddenly feels fresh again.

That's worth keeping in mind beyond the world of jokes. When something fails to impress you anymore, try putting it in a new context. You might be surprised how much value it still has.
