Yordi - A Lifelong Journey of Growth

I Finally Understand Nostalgia

I grew up with Harry Potter. I was roughly the same age as Harry at the time of the book releases, which meant there was a lot I could identify with. I visualized Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and all the other magical places in my head while reading, and watched them come to life in the movies a few years later.

I remember summer holidays where my parents wanted to go on day-long walks when all I wanted was to get to the nearest bookstore and buy the next part in the saga. I would dread the daytime activities because I couldn't wait to get back into this magical world. At the end of the day, when we were finally done walking, I rushed to the bookstore, bought the new book, and ran to my room to start reading about Harry's new adventures.

Earlier this week I watched the first trailer of the new HBO Harry Potter series, and all those magical feelings came straight back. Whether or not it will beat the movies is yet to be seen. I doubt it. But seeing Harry's world come to life yet again brings chills to my bones. I'm absolutely ready to lose myself in this new adventure, re-reading the books before each new season airs.

Up until now I never really had the feeling of nostalgia. I just felt too young for that. But watching this trailer, I finally begin to understand what people mean when they look back to their childhood days and start reminiscing.
